Radiesse® is an unique dermal filler that works by immediately replenishing lost volume and subsequently stimulating the body to produce new collagen, providing a natural and long-lasting result. Radiesse is composed of tiny calcium hydroxylapatite microspheres that are suspended in a gel-like solution. When injected into the skin, Radiesse can immediately add volume, soften the appearance of lines and folds, and provide a contouring effect. Over the following weeks, the skin begins to produce new collagen in response to the presence of the microspheres, which causes a visible lifting effect. Over time, the body absorbs the microspheres, but the long-term effects of the new collagen help maintain results for 12 months or longer in most patients.
Radiesse is very popular among our Novato, Marin County patients, many of whom return for regular touch up treatments with Dr. Miguel Delgado, M.D. and our nurse injector, Ariel Kirk. The reason Radiesse is so popular is that it provides effective, long-lasting results for wide variety of cosmetic concerns. Here are some of the most common uses of Radiesse in our practice:
Lifting
To reverse sagging that occurs as we grow older, Dr. Delgado skillfully injects Radiesse into strategic locations around the face. As the gel lifts the depressed areas, an immediate lifting and tightening of the skin can be seen. Used in this way, Radiesse can provide overall facial rejuvenation by lifting the skin and distributing facial volume more evenly.
Contouring
Radiesse is an excellent choice for patients who want to enhance their cheekbones or jawline or correct nasal asymmetries. Dr. Delgado and his team use Radiesse to add structure and lift where it is missing, restoring youthful contours to the face.

Dr. Delgado and his expert nurse injector, Ariel Kirk, go to great lengths to ensure patient comfort during all procedures. While Radiesse is non-invasive, some people do find it uncomfortable. As such, Dr. Delgado and his nurse injectors typically administer lidocaine, a local anesthetic, before beginning the injections. We may also utilize other techniques, such as ice compresses or topical numbing creams, to lessen discomfort. In most cases, our patients receive multiple injections of Radiesse during a single visit. A treatment session typically lasts around 30 minutes and patients can resume normal activities right away.
Radiesse is an excellent dermal filler for men and women who wish to reverse signs of aging including the appearance of moderate to severe wrinkles, folds and creases, sagging skin, and overall facial volume loss. There is no need for allergy testing with Radiesse because the active ingredient, calcium hydroxylapatite, is a naturally occurring substance in the body.
