Non-Surgical Double Chin Removal with Kybella

Treatment with Kybella is similar to treatment with other injectables. Dr. Delgado and our trained nurse injector, Ariel Kirk, administer all Kybella injections. First, a numbing cream or local anesthetic is applied to reduce discomfort. Then, tiny amounts of Kybella are injected at carefully selected locations under the chin. Most patients will receive between 20-30 injections during their first session. After 6 weeks, some patients will need a second round of treatment to eliminate any remaining pockets of fat.

Kybella Recovery & Results

After Kybella injections, patients can resume normal activities immediately. Most people experience noticeable swelling under the chin and in the upper neck after treatment. This is normal. The body is responding to the treatment and is working to eliminate the dead fat cells. The area may appear red and feel hot or tender to the touch. Dr. Delgado encourages his patients to use cold compresses to reduce swelling and speed the recovery process.

The majority of swelling will dissipate within the first week, but a small amount of swelling can linger for up to 6 weeks. Once all swelling has subsided, the final results of the treatment can be seen. At this point, Dr. Delgado examines his patients to gauge the success of the treatment and decide whether a second round of Kybella injections will be required. Individuals with a substantial amount of fat under the chin may wish to undergo a treatment to tighten skin once the fat has been removed.

Which Fat Removal Treatment is Best For Me?

For many years, liposuction was the only way to correct submental fullness. While incredibly effective, liposuction is an invasive procedure that requires several days of downtime and carries with it the risk of infection. CoolSculpting is another non-invasive treatment that was recently approved for treating a double chin. Dr. Delgado highly recommends CoolSculpting, which destroys fat cells by exposing them to very low temperatures, for certain patients. In order for CoolSculpting to be effective, there must be enough fat to fit between the cooling panels. If a patient doesn’t have enough fat under the chin or the surface area of the fat cannot be accommodated by the CoolSculpt panel, then Dr. Delgado may recommend an alternative treatment, such as Kybella.
